South Shore Stars CEO Jennifer Curtis, Ed.D., to Step Down in October

Dr. Curtis leaves behind a legacy of innovation, growth, and stability for South Shore families.

South Shore Stars, a nonprofit organization providing the highest quality early education and youth development programs for the communities south of Boston, announced today that Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Curtis, Ed.D., will step down from her position in mid-October.

Dr. Curtis joined South Shore Stars in 2021 and has played a pivotal role in strengthening the organization’s mission, expanding programming, and stabilizing its long-term financial outlook.

Stars was founded in 1970 with the goal of providing affordable childcare to working families.  Under Dr. Curtis’s leadership, Stars launched new early education initiatives, secured public and private investments, and built out a strong leadership team to oversee the organization’s education, childcare, and family support programs that serve more than 1,300 children and their families each year. The organization completed multiple real estate deals to shift much of its footprint into more modern facilities. Dr. Curtis established the new South Shore Stars School and Learning Center for students with diverse learning needs, which will open in September as the first and only school on the South Shore focused on language-based differences.

“We’re grateful for Dr. Curtis’s leadership and success in reshaping Stars for the future,” said Paul Meoni, Chair of the Board of Directors.

“She is departing an organization that is stronger, more innovative, and better equipped to meet the evolving needs of children and families across the South Shore. We remain committed to providing an environment to support each child’s development, regardless of background.”

With the search process underway for the organization’s next leader, Stars’ Board of Directors is committed to an inclusive process that will involve leadership, staff, and key community partners to ensure continuity and vision.
